Background to Give and Buy

Give and Buy was devised by two Irish charities focused on Africa. Friends of Kitui (Kenya) and CareAid (Tanzania and Zambia), both charities operating under the Charity Code. These charities have been operating for more than seven years and have raised almost 2 million euro for education, health and women's empowerment projects.

Raising money in this economic climate is difficult. Give and Buy can enable you to provide financial support without putting your hand in your pocket.

Give and Buy was conceived by Aidan Corless, Chairman of Care Aid in 2009 as a response to the fact that charity revenue was down due to the recession, yet he observed that people were still giving things to charity shops. He assembled a team of volunteers who have built the classified advertisement software and this website and who work to promote the site.

We're very proud of the charities that have become our partners and for whom we are helping to raise funds. They include not only the founding charities Friends of Kitui and CareAid, but also other Irish-registered charities which assist the homeless, suicide prevention, children with special needs and other disadvantaged groups as well as poverty-stricken people overseas. We expect to have more charities on board before long.

We'd like to acknowledge all the many individuals and firms who've helped us get this far. They include all of our sponsors who have provided services for free.

Our patron is Miriam O'Callaghan who besides being one of the most successful broadcasters and a much-loved public figure, works tirelessly in support of many worthwhile charitable causes, including Give and Buy.
